Precisely for all this time of existence we can imagine that writing a novel is not an easy task. And trying to get away from the clichéd plots that the public is already used to, several Brazilian authors seek inspiration in films. If we look closely, it is possible to see that some soap opera productions look like international films . Here we show some cases.
1 – “Chocolate with Pepper” and “Carrie the Strange”
This is a scene that all horror movie fans picked up on right away. The scene in the soap opera in which Ana Francisca is humiliated at her senior prom taking a bath during the school dance is inspired by the horror classic. However, Carrie is covered in pig’s blood, something a little darker.
2 – “The Owner of the Piece” and “Invocation of Evil”
In Walcyr Carrasco’s novel, viewers were surprised by the outcome of the character Josiane. In the last chapter of the novel, Maria da Paz’s daughter appears in the last scene, making a clear allusion to the movie “Invocation of Evil”.
3 – “Mother’s Love” and “Erin Brockovich – A Talented Woman”
In the soap opera “Amor de Mãe”, the character played by Thaís Araújo, Vitória, is a successful lawyer who defends people who were victims of poisoning in the waters of Guaporim. The scenes where the lawyer interacts with the residents refer to the movie “Erin Brockovich – A Woman of Talent” starring Julia Roberts.
4 – “The other side of paradise” and “Kill Bill”
Clara’s revenge on the novel was inspired by Quentin Tarantino’s “Kill Bill”. In the film, the protagonist goes in search of the people who destroyed her future in order to kill them. And in Walcyr Carrasco’s plot, Clara is the victim of a setup and returns to get revenge on the group of people who sent her to the asylum.
5 – “The other side of Heaven” and “Madame X”
A soap opera author can take inspiration from several films to create the most varied plots for their characters. Also in this novel we can see that Carrasco used the movie “Madame X” to inspire the story of the character Elizabeth, played by Glória Pires. The synopsis of the film is: after the death of her lover, a woman is convinced by her mother-in-law to fake her own death.
6 – “Pride and Passion” and “Pride and Prejudice”
From the name we can already see that the novel was clearly inspired by the plot of Jane Austen. In English history, we know the Bennet family, with a couple and their five daughters. In the Brazilian soap opera, viewers were introduced to the Benedito family, made up of the sisters Elisabeta, Jane, Cecília, Lídia and Mariana.
7 – “God Save the King” and “Game of Thrones”
The soap opera’s directors confirmed that the hit HBO series served as a reference in some aspects of Globo’s 7 pm soap opera.
